Detasseling
During detasseling season we go through the field removing the tassels from the female rows. About 80%-90% of the tassels are removed with mechanical cutters and pullers. Each year we hire 40-60 boys and girls 14+ years old to go through the fields 2-3 more times removing the missed tassels to ensure the purity of the seed produced. The season usually lasts 2-3 weeks depending on the weather at that time.
